PHOTOGRAPHY workshop

Beyond Auto

Release your full creative potential by combining artistic technique with the features of your modern digital camera.

Modern cameras are amazing but they have nothing on your photographic creativity. Don’t be restricted by auto mode. Join us on this photography workshop to seize control of the features on your digital camera. The technique must be balanced with the artistry, and we attend to this in equal measure.  A great artist must learn to hold the brush before the great work can be done.

The day generally flows like this (staying flexible for the weather/tides etc) –  Meet at 9:30am for tea and cake with an indoor session on some of the fundamentals of photography. Before lunch there is an opportunity to put these skills into practice. In the afternoon we head out to a wild place to put your new found skills to test. We finish up for 5pm with a relaxed review of some of the images of the day and suggestions for next steps.

PHOTOGRAPHY workshop

writing with light

Exploring finding your visual voice, and how to capture the human experience of the world, and share that narrative with others through a single image.

“Photography” comes from two Greek words “Writing” and “Light”. The true art of photography is not just capturing a pretty view or face, but in the communication of a story.

Through challenges and discussion you will learn to see light differently and use it to convey meaning and emotion.

You will find inspiration on the stunning coastal cliffs, beaches and woodlands of Cornwall.

We meet at 9:30am to fuel up on tea and cake and discuss the objectives of the day. We will then head out to chase the light with plenty of time to experiment with feedback. We finish the photography workshop by looking at images from the day and suggestions for next steps.

VIDEO WORKSHOP

Learn to tell the stories of your adventures with engaging narrative and beautiful cinematography. Aimed at beginners using their stills camera for video, GoPros and even mobile phones

There has never been a better time to explore the wonderful world of film making with quality equipment readily available and the ability to share it with the world for free. When you are starting out it can be confusing even for those that are used to stills photography. This workshop distils this expanse subject into the key game changing actions you can take to start making enjoyable, entertaining and inspiring films with the equipment you have. We focus on what is truly important – the story!

The day generally flows like this (staying flexible for the weather/tides etc) –  Meet at 9:30am for tea and cake with an indoor session on some of the fundamentals of film making. Before lunch we will collectively make a plan for the rest of the day roughing out a storyboard for a short film. The afternoon is dedicated to cinematography, types of shot and using the equipment to best effect. With plenty of footage in the can we will return inside to make a hasty edit of our film discussing the basics of cutting a film and output options. The goal is not to make a perfect film but rather to furnish you with the building blocks you can use to put together your own productions in the future. We finish up for 5pm with a relaxed review of the key points of the day.
